November is adop ta sernior pet month

November is Adopt a Senior Pet Month! DVH wants to promote adopting a Senior pet and at the same time promote ideal medical pet care for our senior patients, at a discounted rate!

Did you know that a senior pet is typically considered to be over the age of 6-7 years old? Some pros to adopting a senior pet are that the majority of them are already vaccinated, neutered and housetrained. This is unlike getting a new puppy or kitten where you have to initially make frequent veterinary appointments to get booster vaccines, labwork, and general medical care services to keep your pet as healthy as possible. Also, these younger "infant" patients will need training and fairly strict supervision while they go through their different learning phases.

When you adopt a senior pet, you are genuinely saving a life since many people overlook these older souls for younger puppies or kittens. Once these senior pets are adopted they usually want nothing more than to please their new hero and they are often times exceptionally affectionate and attentive pets.

If you adopt a senior pet during the month of November, DVH would like to offer you a discounted exam rate as well as 25% off senior bloodwork for any pet adopted this month that are 6 years and older*.

For our already established senior pet patients over 6 years of age, we would also like to offer a discounted exam rate and 15% off of senior bloodwork.

Often times underlying pathologies can cause severe organ dysfunction without symptoms, until the pathology has become chronic and possibly life threatening. Routine senior lab work gives a nice baseline of your pet's normal values to compare to in the future, but most importantly can find abnormalities much sooner than waiting until your pet starts to show symptoms of a possible disorder. In thus, allowing for the complete resolution of the condition or at the very least allows the newly diagnosed condition to be best managed. Which could offer many additional years of a better quality and longevity of your older fur babies life!

If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment for your newly added family member or currently established senior pet, please call the hospital at 407-322-3930.

DVH is proud to work with Metta Rescue group that prides themselves on fostering, providing gold standard medical care to their rescued animals and adopting out senior pets. Please check them out at https://mettarescuefamily.org/.

*For newly adopted senior pets, please email/bring your adoption paperwork with you for your appointment for the larger discounted rates to be applied

ProHeart

Have you ever given your dog's oral heartworm preventative twice in the same month because you forgot to mark it on your calendar?! Have you ever missed a monthly dose?! Does your dog hate taking their medication or vomit after, leaving you unsure if they got any of it?! Have you ever skipped a month of applying your dog's topical heartworm preventative because you just didn't want to deal with the greasy mess?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, DVH has a solution for you, and it's name is ProHeart!!! ProHeart is an injectable heartworm prevention that also prevents against several types of intestinal parasites. One of the best features about it is that once given, it lasts for 6-12 months (pending age and type of injection given), providing round the clock heartworm prevention that you no longer even need to think about having to do at home!

Once you have started this injectable preventative, we will set up recurring appointments for the injection (provided your pet is a good candidate as determined by one of our veterinarians), in order to accommodate your busy schedule. This will allow for an even more effortless and efficacious prevention program for your furry baby.
